happy birthday to gordon.

someone turns 1 year old tomorrow.
for his birthday we are taking him to puppy daycare,
his absolute favorite place in the world. (weird, right?)
then on friday we are having his puppy friends over for a birthday party.
(stop judging me. this is my only child. )
this picture was the day i wanted to return him.
he was a little fluffy, pink bellied baby who would rip into my flesh with his puppy teeth.  he continually gnawed on my hands and feet for 2 straight months.  but who couldn't love this face.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

make your own artwork for less than $50.00

finally my office is complete. it is! it finally looks like a real office. better yet. i am beyond thrilled with the result.  to catch you up to speed about a year ago i talked my husband into giving me the living room as my home office.  since then i have tried not to be obnoxious about the work needed done... mostly painting.

fun fact. i don't paint. i mean i can paint... i am physically able, i have two working arms/hands, but i just don't.  i've tried! more than one time. epic fails. when i say "paint" i mean everything but spray painting. lets get serious now, i could spray paint anything and make it a masterpiece (obviously i'm feeling sassy today).

ANYWAY. the room was painted professionally. looks amaze balls, i must say. so i searched everywhere for a great piece above the couch that is in the office.

couch background: it was in the house when we bought it. i had every intention of reupholstering the couch in something fabulous, but haven't. it grew on me. i mean if it was up to me i would have a fabulous white fabric on it. but then no one could touch it. gordon dog couldn't take naps on it while i have my coffee and blog in the am. my husband couldn't nap on it when i don't want to be alone in my office ... sometimes you just need a silent presence.

so i didn't change the fabric. i just overpowered the ugly fab with pillows. which i may add, i love very much.

okay. let's get back on track here... basically i needed artwork for above the couch. checked everywhere like marshalls etc. wanted something modern/abstract to balance the couch out. was NOT paying $129  for some ugly replica abstract at marshalls.  so i decided to take on the challenge myself. and boom. i must say this "painter" is pretty proud.

okay enough with the small talk.
this is my how to. and go...

1. find inspiration.
this is a picture i took for the jan issue of out and about + pillows & couch.

(this is the picture that inspired the office completely.)

2. buy the canvas.
AC MOORE = $20.00 (wowza)

3. paint & brushes. also AC MOORE.
liquitex acrylic (basics) and cheapo brushes.  totalled $22.00.

for the paint i chose colores that match the pillows:
a turquoise, deep pink, purple.
then i threw in some black, white, gray (to match the walls) and gold.

4. paint clothing. aka homeless people attire, as my husband calls it...

5. your kitchen floor as your art studio.

SOME TIPS:
i used a white plate from the dollar store as my palette.
i used big brushes.
i used my fingers.
the first layer looked like a disaster.
the second layer (after i let the first layer of disaster dried) was what i was looking for.
listen to music, it will make you feel like a real painter for some reason.

if i can do it. so can you. in fact yours will probably look even better.
GOOD LUCK!

the right to bear arms?

The Second Amendment?

Just came across this dress on ASOS.  Fur Sleeves? Really?  I mean I go out of my way to draw attention AWAY from my "charms"(chubby arms).  I would look like a linebacker in this dress. Don't get me wrong, those of the model figure can probably rock it.... just not me.  I would literally look like I had bear arms.
